Developing Funding Proposal for Cleaning Abandoned Oil and Gas Wells for the Gwich'in Tribal Council in the NWT
Initiative: Protecting Lands, Protecting Futures
Challenge: The Gwich’in Tribal Council faced uncertainty regarding the management of abandoned oil and gas wells on their ancestral lands, posing safety concerns for community members as they carried out their traditional practices.
Solution: Through collaborative efforts, funding proposals were submitted to Federal and territorial governments to facilitate the cleanup of these abandoned wells. This initiative aimed to ensure the safety of land users and community members, allowing them to uphold their rights and cultural practices without compromise.
